More About Windsor Neckwear

What began in 2008 as a common passion for men's neckwear has become a rapidly growing business venture between Michael McPherson Jr. and Mace Neal III.  The concept for Windsor Neckwear was first thought of on one of many shopping voyages between Michael and Mace.  One day while shopping for a new tie in a popular men's store the duo walked away disappointed in the lack of variety and similarity in a sea of what looked like repetitive ties!  After a brief discussion about the lack luster experience Mike said "we should start our own necktie line" and Mace simply responded "yeah we should".  From that day forward the duo never looked back.  Windsor Neckwear began with a total $80.00 investment between Mike and Mace who purchased fabric and a quick sew necktie pattern.  Initially they began making hand made ties, ascots, and pocket squares.
The plan was to always have their line manufactured on a larger scale so they spent the first year and a half learning the manufacturing business and building capital to develop their first line.  In late 2009 after garnering the support of a manufacturing facility they made their first line of four designs.  There were several issues with their first experience but they managed to sell out of all four designs in three weeks!  From that point Windsor Neckwear has expanded to offering a vast array of beautiful neckties each unique in their own way.
To not fall into the pit of "designers block" and creating a basic collection, Windsor Neckwear made it their practice to produce limited quantities per design.  The most they will produce of any one tie in a specific color is 50 pieces, they do this to constantly introduce new products, keep their items exclusive and to always keep the creative juices flowing.  This has worked well for Windsor Neckwear and because of this they always tell their customers "if you see it and like it then get it, because it won't be available long".

More Siane Wilson

(Excerpt from Mocha Market and GenmaSpeaks)

Siane Wilson was attending Clark Atlanta University in the spring of 2012. Having always wanted to follow her dreams of performing on Broadway, she began researching performing arts’ auditions at the school’s library. Siane, a longtime lover of all things Disney, was looking for Disney’s Lion King auditions.

“All it takes is Faith and Trust” - Peter Pan

To her surprise, Disney was holding auditions. Unfortunately, the auditions were being held in New York City. Traveling to New York would mean missing two days of class but she continued searching. By chance, Siane saw a link for www.disneyauditions.com. As luck would have it, they were holding auditions in her hometown, Nashville, Tennessee. With great anticipation, Siane printed the information and dashed back to her room to call her mother, Seanne Wilson. The mother-daughter duo discussed plans for Siane to attend the Nashville auditions. Two days later, Siane was on a bus home as the auditions were that weekend. She would be able to audition for Disney without missing classes. (Click here to continue reading.)

Soldiers Turned Songwriters to Perform at SAFE's Nashville Breakfast

SAFE, Soldiers and Families Embrace, is continuing to help active military men and women and veterans seek healing from the traumas of war. In September, SAFE paired Nashville songwriters with soldiers to share their stories through songs. On November 8 2013, a benefit concert was held for love ones and the public to hear the music that blood, sacrifice, and tears help produced.

On Friday, November 15, 2013, some of the songs will be performed again at SAFE's Nashville Breakfast. The SAFE Nashville's Breakfast will be held at Ben Folds’ Studio, 30 Music Sq. W. Ste. 310, Nashville, TN 37203 8:30 am.

One of the songs that will be performed at breakfast was co-written by Vietnam Veteran Bill Fritschler (sic), Jason Jones, and Keni Thomas, entitled "Unspoken."  The song expresses the pain of veterans and members of the military not being able to talk to their families about their war experiences. The song tells us about Bill's father's Silver Star, an award for valor in combat that Bill did not know his father had received in WWII until after Bill's father died. He and his mother never knew why or what had happened.  The three will share and sing the song.  Veteran David Bradley will also be there to share and sing his song, "Get a Hero Home."
More About the Performers

In the summer of 1993, Sergeant Keni Thomas was deployed to Mogadishu, Somalia with the 3rd Ranger Battalion as part of an elite special operations package called Task Force Ranger. Their mission was to find a capture a criminal warlord named Mohammed Farrah Aideed. On the 3rd of October, Keni and his fellow rangers distinguished themselves in an eighteen hour fire-fight that would later be recounted in the highly successful book and movie “Blackhawk Down”. Nineteen Americans gave their lives and 78 were wounded in the worst urban combat seen by US troops since WWII.

Jason Jones is the son of a Vietnam Veteran and has shared that he has been able to talk to his dad more since the retreat than ever before about his war experiences.

David Bradley is a veteran of Britain's Royal Air Force who donates a great deal of his time to veterans and their families and who personally recruited about a third of the songwriters who participated in the retreat and now the concert on Nov. 8.

Join Living Your Best Life with Genma Holmes as we profile leaders who lead by example. With extraordinary acts of kindness and charitable giving that help countless lives daily, these leaders embody "Be the change you want to see in the world".

Throughout 2013, listeners will hear from presidents of organizations who are global change agents. We will also hear from CEOs of social enterprise businesses who are changing communities and college educators who are taking their students out of the classroom and into surrounding neighborhoods to learn and serve others.

On Saturday, November 9, 2013,  tune in to hear Felicia Figlarz Anchor, daughter of Holocaust survivors and a longtime advocate for Holocaust remembrance and education. For 27 years, Anchor has served as a commissioner on the Tennessee Holocaust Commission, which was created by the state legislature in 1984.  In 2012, Anchor stepped down as the Commission's chair after serving in that role for 16 years but continues to serve as a commissioner.

Anchor is our Doing Good's volunteer of the month. Doing Good works with other non-profits to promote volunteers and increase volunteerism. Kim "Brownie" Vaughn shines the spotlight each month on volunteers who are making a difference in our community on Living Your Best Life.

Tune into 760AM in the Middle Tennessee Region, on Tune In, streaming live on line at UStream.TV, and on military bases on Saturdays from 9:00-10am CST. This show will also air on the HBCU Network.

More About Felicia Figlarz Anchor

The Commission’s primary role is Holocaust education.  During Anchor’s years as chair, the Commission participated in the publication of two books, “The Holocaust and Other Genocides: History, Representation, Ethics” and “Living On: Portraits of Tennessee Survivors and Liberators.”

The Commission has supported annual Days of Remembrance at the state Capitol each year, has recognized teachers for Holocaust education through the annual Belz-Lipman Holocaust Educator Award, and has collaborated with the Cumberland County Playhouse and Nashville Ballet to bring the ballet “Anne Frank” to the rural county east of Nashville.

The Holocaust Commission’s “Living On” exhibit of survivors’ and liberators’ stories has been widely shown through the state.  Efforts also are under way, with the help of several foundations, to preserve filmed interviews of Tennessee residents who survived the Holocaust or helped liberate concentration camps during World War II.  The films will be converted to a digital format, making them more accessible to students, teachers and researchers. Educational programs for teachers have been held across the state, and the Commission has made it possible for teachers to attend educational programs at the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum.

Anchor helped make the Nashville Holocaust Memorial a reality.  The outdoor memorial on the grounds of the Gordon Jewish Community Center was dedicated in October 2006.  Its 12 memorial walls contain the names of relatives of Nashville families who either survived or perished in the Holocaust. Brown is Genma Holmes New Black

I am known for donning black...often. Ten thousand pairs of black pants, skirts, blazers, and evening dresses galore it seems. I do not recall when the color of black took over my closet but I believe somewhere between raising teens and owning a business, I started wearing black. Lots of black.

After a health scare in the spring of 2013, I took assessment of life and decided to make sure I am doing things that I truly enjoy. Getting back to blogging about great finds for the fashionistas who love clothes and who love great deals has been on my must do list for sometime. I am collector, not a shopper, of timeless pieces that can flow effortlessly from day into evening and would be appropriate in the boardroom, volunteering in a school, in a radio studio, and of course, running a pest control company.

Brown has become my new black. Almond, amber, bay, brandy, bronze, chocolate, cinnamon, coffee, copper, mocha, and rich gold tones clothing and accessories have made their way to the check out counter with me since the day after Labor Day. Here is one of my new favorites outfits.

In WTST studios getting ready to interview Travis McVey
The Anne Klein gold silk blouse, the brown leather belt with gold embroidery, and the gold knotted necklace were from a wonderful store called The Sugar Pea in Old Hickory, TN.

The Bergdorf Goodman brown boulce skirt woven with gold metallic thread has a little swing action and can be paired with an evening jacket for a night on the town. This beautiful skirt is from Couture for a Cause in Brentwood, TN. The blouse and skirt look as if they were made for each other. My leopard print velvet tee is over twenty years old and felt brand new when I paired it with the skirt and blouse.

The tan flower bracelet with topaz gemstones peeping from under the cuff of my blouse is from my own line of jewelry that is debuting soon.

At the Southern Region IABC Conference with Diane Chase
I wore a pair of black boots and brown tights with this outfit. Compliments galore!

For more great finds like my ensemble above, visit The Sugar Pea and Couture for Cause. These boutiques are owned by women with wonderful hearts and are on a mission. They champion women with causes and I love them dearly. Tell them Genma sent you!
